Implementation Update

The Department continues in its efforts to initiate Self-Directed Services (SDS) in California. However, implementation of this new service option is dependent upon approval of the Department's federal SDS Waiver application by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Department filed an SDS Waiver application with CMS on April 2, 2008. The Department of Health Care Services, the State Department that manages California’s federal waivers, has put the SDS Waiver on a list of priority items for discussion with the new federal administration.
